“Make It Metallic” with Victoria Lansford: January 4, 2013 Meeting Details

Make It Metallic:  Copper leaf illuminating made quick and creative

Join us for the January 4, 2013 Penablers meeting to learn a quick and easy gilding technique demonstrated by Victoria Lansford that will add light and beauty to your calligraphic designs without the cost or challenge of real gold.  We’ll use variegated (or plain) copper leaf to gild a letter or shape then add color around it to make the metal really pop.

Victoria Lansford Our Success(300)

What to bring:

• 5 x 7 piece of white cardstock or hot press watercolor paper

• Small cheap pointed brush (size 2 or 4)

• One blue, purple, green, or red marker, tube watercolor, or water soluble colored pencil (for coloring around the gilding)

• Mechanical pencil

• Eraser

• Verigated (or plain) copper or other non precious metal leaf (available at Binders)

• Schminke metal powder in any color (optional)

• You don’t have to have a shape or a letter design ahead of time, but if you’d like to have one ready, please keep it less than 2″ x 2″.  Note: wide spaces work better than hairlines.

• A snack or beverage to share

We’ll supply glassine and gilding base for everyone to use.

Hope to see you there!

A Pentabulous Preview of Changes for 2013

Hello Inkers!

The first six months of the Atlanta Penablers has been a blast! 2012 marked the beginning of something new and fresh for Atlanta’s calligraphic and book arts communities. In the interest to deepen our roots and maintain the community’s longevity, some changes for 2013 will begin to be rolled out in the preceding months.

Formation of a Penablers Advisory Group:

BINDERS Art School will form an Advisory Group to cast vision, handle Penabler decisions,

and assist with visiting workshop instructors and monthly meetings. This group will meet quarterly.

Two open positions for Penablers Advisory Group:

Cast your vote or volunteer! We need 2 more Penablers to join Jacob, Victoria, and Anne.

Are you interested in being a part of the Atlanta Penabler Advisory Group? Would you like to step forward or recommend someone to serve who you believe could take the Penablers to the next level? Please contact the BINDERS Education Office to volunteer or recommend someone by Friday, December 28th.

Enhanced benefits via annual membership dues:

BINDERS would also like to enhance the benefits of becoming and remaining an Atlanta Penabler for years to come. Special workshop and supply discounts, coupons, hospitality perks, and free goodies will be just some of the added benefits that come from annual membership dues set to begin in early 2013.

We’ll be unfolding more details about this exciting plan and the future of the Atlanta Penablers at our meeting this Friday, “For the Table” on December 7th at 6pm. Please come and add your voice.

We’ll also be doing a calligraphic table card project, inspired by well known calligrapher, Carrie Imai, and taught to Anne by Carol Gray. Anne will be leading this project and adding her own unique flare to the idea in the spirit of sharing for the holiday season.

Hope to see you there!
